Celebrations at the Bay Pasadena Maryland Wedding: Jenn and Vic

What will you remember most about your wedding day?
I will remember laughing my face off at the alter with Vic; drinking glass after glass of champagne with my sisters and the other strong and beautiful women in my life; dancing with my father; watching my mother exude radiance, joy and grace as she twirled in her fabulous dress; crying and laughing at each of the amazing and poignant speeches our dearest loved ones made; seeing smiling faces of friends and family; and feeling utterly humbled by how much love we received throughout the day.

Favorite wedding photo and why:
The one of me laughing at the alter with Vic, looking out to the crowd, while Vic is laughing and looking at me. I love it because I feel like it perfectly encapsules the giddiness we were feeling, and how Robin somehow captured a moment that felt both intimate and open.

Most stressful thing about planning your wedding?
Wanting to consider the opinions and vision of those who love ad support us, while still maintaining our own style and voice for the wedding.

Most enjoyable thing about planning your wedding?
Communicating every day with Vic, making countless decisions together, and learning more about each other and what we value in the process!

If you were able to do it all over again, would you do anything differently?
Nope!

Any words of wisdom for brides/grooms who are currently planning their day?
Laugh! Everyone is there because they love you both and are rooting for you. It’s the best feeling EVER.

Theme or style: Superhero! We love comics, superheroes, and all things geek. We had so much fun planning our tables and assigning our friends and family to a superhero.

Hotel Monaco, Baltimore Maryland Wedding: Mark and Lia

Lia shares some behind the scenes and wedding planning tips from her wedding at the Hotel Monaco in Baltimore.

What will you remember most about your wedding day?
It’s hard to say.. it literally flew by!! People kept telling me that was going to happen and I can honestly say, it did. But, my most favorite part was our first look. The best butterflies I’ve ever had, followed by a moment with my future husband was the most memorable moment in time. I will never forget it.

Favorite wedding photo and why:
Our nighttime shot in the crosswalk on the streets of Baltimore. I love everything about it. It captures such a beautiful time and place and will always be a part of the life that Mark and I have created here in such a great city!

What was the most stressful thing about planning your wedding?
I can honestly say, I had the most stress-free wedding planning experience! Being just an easy-going person myself, and marrying someone just as easy-going, everything seemed to work out for us. If I had to pick something, it would probably be the minor details, the tablecards, signage, etc. I’m not a “planner,” so coordinating these small details didn’t necessarily come easy. I just didn’t think of everything. I’m so grateful for my sister, girlfriends, moms and bridesmaids!

And the most enjoyable part of planning?
The most enjoyable thing was probably just watching it all come together. We would set out to complete tasks and once they were “checked-off” I felt a great deal of relief and joy! And excitement!!!

If you were able to do it all over again, would you do anything differently?
Only to add about 100 more hours to the day.. I never wanted it to end!!!

Any words of wisdom for brides who are currently planning their day?
I received some good advice that I always kept close to my heart while planning and I would definitely pass it along. And that was just to always remember, this is YOUR day. If you want those flowers or that song or that color bridemaids dress, than that’s what you should have. It’s not about pleasing everyone else or choosing what someone else may want, it’s about what YOU and your future mate will love. This is a day that sums up who you are and every last detail should reflect that.

USO-Metro’s 33rd Annual Awards Dinner – Washington DC Military Event Photographer

One of the highlights of every year is being asked to photograph the Annual Awards Dinner for the USO of Metropolitan Washington DC. This year’s event attendees included 27 Medal of Honor recipients (two from Afghanistan). Service awards were presented to musician Steve Nicks, 5-time NFL MVP Peyton Manning, DC poet and essayist Seema Reza, and Oscar-nominated film maker and best-selling author Sebastian Junger.

Stevie Nicks was acknowledged for having spent the most hours visiting combat-wounded servicemen and women. The award was presented to Nicks by Cpl Vincent Mannion-Brouder who was in a coma for over a year. Nicks has stayed in touch with Mannion-Brouder and his family over the years as he continued his stunning recovery.

As part of USO Metro’s Celebrity Handshake Tour, Nicks also donated hundreds of iPods she personally programmed with music to the returning vets who she spent time with during their recovery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Bethesda Naval Medical Center over several years.

Welcome Home Daddy! – Military Homecoming

One of the things I love most about photographing Military Homecomings is capturing the overwhelming joy. And this young lady helped me make one of my of my most favorite images that I’ve captured in a long time (above). She was SOOOOOO excited to finally see her daddy again after returning from deployment that she was absolutely beside herself! She just kept repeating, “He’s here!! He’s here!!” It was as if she was trying to convince herself that it was really true!

Meeting Dad For The First Time

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted about my military homecoming work with Operation Welcome Home, but I just had to share this wonderful family reunion from a couple of weeks ago. There is nothing more touching to me than photographing a dad meeting his child for the first time – especially after returning home from an overseas deployment.
